Erma Corine Bullock was born on April 22, 1928 in the town of Bristow,
Oklahoma. She was the middle child, Robert C. Bennett (R.C.) and
Walter E. Jones (W.E.) preceded her in death. Her parents are Estella
Anne Price and Oliver P. Price. While in Bristow, she attended
Harlinsville Elementary School. In 1942 the family moved to Monrovia,
CA for a better life. Erma was 14 years old and was enrolled at Clifton
Jr. High School; she then went on to graduate from Monrovia-Arcadia-
Duarte High School in 1947.
Erma married and from that union two (2) beautiful daughters were
born, Loretta and Rebecca (Becky). She later moved to Pasadena and
joined Friendship Baptist Church. While at Friendship she sang in the
choir, joined the missionary board and was an announcement clerk. She
moved to Pomona and joined Primm Tabernacle AME Church and served
in various capacities until moving to Monrovia in 2006 when she joined
First AME Church Pasadena and was active in the missionary society,
stewardess board and Sunday school. Erma was consecrated as a
deaconess in 2013 at the age of 85. She dearly loved her church and
was “at the ready” when and wherever needed.
Erma worked in electronics and retired from McDonnell Douglas in
1993; but she didn’t retire from life. She continued to work in service
for a Boy’s home and provided in-home care in the Pasadena-Altadena
area. Her hobbies include crocheting, making her famous fudge,
crafts, table favors, etc. She loved watching the court shows on TV.
When asked what the secret to her longevity is, she replied “I depend
on the Lord to take care of us. I pray day and night for family and
friends and I eat good food, especially my favorite, collard greens”.
Erma was a hard working Mother who continued to stay close to the
Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory 2 daughters, Loretta Hudson
(Harry) and Becky Hudspeth, 4 grandchildren, Zrederick James
Hudson, Stephen Duane Hudson, Sr., Laura Weaver (Michael) and Leslie
Corine Hudspeth, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
